On Monday, 09, December 2024, the union minister of state for education Jayant Chaudhary revealed that more than 8 lakh CBSE students have enrolled in AI (artificial intelligence) courses for the session 2024-25 at the secondary level (classes 9 and 10). Plus, more than 50,000 students opted for AI education at the senior secondary level (classes 11 and 12).
This number indicates the growing importance of AI education in the country and its potential to shape the future.
Chaudhary mentioned “National Education Policy, 2020 stresses upon creating holistic and well-rounded individuals equipped with the key 21st-century skills. NEP 2020 recognises the role and importance of machine learning and artificial intelligence’’.
Since the introduction of AI in CBSE schools, this technology has immensely gained popularity among students. The CBSE-affiliated schools are empowering young learners with AI knowledge, offering a 15-hour introduction in Class VIII and specialised courses for Classes IX and XII.
“The objective of the AI curriculum is to develop a readiness for understanding and appreciating artificial intelligence and its applications in our lives’’–Chaudhary added.
Most CBSE-affiliated schools have the IT infrastructure to support AI education. With a generation of AI-savvy students contributing to innovation and development, this trend indicates a promising future for the country’s tech industry.
