India is rapidly emerging as an AI (artificial intelligence) hub globally. The country is following a forward-thinking approach to ensure the safe and ethical development of AI. India’s government plans to establish an AI safety institute to ensure this technology is used ethically and responsibly.
In October 2023, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) proposed an AI Safety Institute, following discussions with industry leaders and experts under the IndiaAI Mission.
